PROGRAM:

THE DUCK PERFORMANCE| Marija Baranauskaite – Liberman (LT/UK)

What does it mean to look and be looked at? The Duck Performance is a show by interdisciplinary artist Marija Bransauskaitė-Liberman, in which pond ducks unexpectedly become the centre of attention. So far, M. Baranauskaitė has primarily explored artistically what it means to perform for non-human spectators – for example, for objects such as sofas. The Duck Performance bravely expands this spectrum, as it is a show for humans. It encourages looking at the relationship between animals and humans with new eyes. The reasons for this decision and its post-human underpinnings are presented in a performative lecture that sets the framework for the excursion. The audience then embarks on a journey through the city to reach the stage of the actual performance. An extremely meaningful and appreciative preparation for the climax at the pond!

CEMENT ECLIPSES PROJECT | Isaac Cordal (ESP)

The Cement Eclipses Project began as a nomadic project in public spaces in 2006 and is still in progress. To date, it has made interventions in cities such as Berlin, London, Bogota, Brussels, Zagreb, Vienna, Taipei, Milan, New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Hanoi, etc. With the simple act of miniaturization and thoughtful placement, Isaac Cordal magically expands the imagination of pedestrians finding his sculptures on the street.

The Cement Eclipses Project is a critical definition of our behaviour as a social mass. The artwork intends to catch the attention of our devalued relationship with nature through a critical look at the collateral effects of our evolution. With the master touch of a stage director, the figures are placed in locations that quickly open doors to other worlds.

July 11 – 14, during the entire festival, in the streets of Vilnius Old Town

STORK | Aino Mäkipää / Kanta Company (FIN/LT)

“It‘s early morning, the sun just started to rise, the ground is covered with dew, and the fields are surrounded by a mysterious mist. A stork‘s nest is built on a tall black pole. A proud and slightly dirty white stork stands inside of it.”

With the arrival of the new circus, everyone seems to have forgotten about the participation of animals in the performance. However, after choosing an animal as the object of artistic research in contemporary circus, they return to the stage, only this time in a more mindful way – in the form of an idea. Like the migratory birds – storks, circus artists do not stay in one place for too long, their life is a constant movement. Inspired by this nomadic status, a stack of documentaries, books for children and adults, and peoples’ tales, Finnish artist Aino Mäkipää uses a Chinese pole and juggling to tell the dramatic story of an elegantly rough-looking bird from a human perspective in her first solo creation – Stork.

THE PLACE | Electrico 28 (CAT)

Work in progress description:

The Place is a story about a place that, at first sight, is not a place to fall in love with. It is not the kind of place that would be announced in a travel guide or that one would photograph.

Eléctrico 28’s new performance is about the relationship with a place like that. Observing it, sensing it, inhabiting it, imagining and describing it. What places, things and beings exist inside of it? What does it expect from us? What could happen to it? Does it take us elsewhere, too?

The performance invites the audience to see, listen, touch and connect to a place and the places inside it. To consider that we are actually a place ourselves.

ESPERA | Compañía de Circo eia (CAT)

Espera is a participatory circus show where the audience is invited, in a subtle way, to experience from close what happens on stage. When the border between the stage and the audience disappears, the show becomes an opportunity to share a collective experience, where we look at each other in the eyes and we listen to each other with the body. In an atmosphere that brings us to a place away from our time, made of simple gestures, the acrobats become artisans of movement and lost landscapes appear in front of us, filled with human gestures and honest meetings.

On their journey, they explore each other’s (im)possibilities and find out what it means to put all their weight in someone else’s hands.

Knot on Hands shows an innovative and more organic form of partner acrobatics, while emphasizing the pureness of the movement, and distinguishes itself using a unique physical language.

BALCONY | Ulna dance company (LT)

The performance takes a new look at the connection between our movement and our environment: how does the relationship and the totality of all these components change, how can our experience and history alter when the action is moved to a completely different environment? “Balcony” invites the audience to become an equal part of an experimental journey, where every movement is a step towards new forms of interaction and every stage setting is a new interpretation of the world.

It is a poetry of movement revealing the power of the environment around us, shaping our identity and interaction with ourselves and others. During the performance, the dancers create different spaces of processes, exposing the influence of the environment on the movement. In this way, a continuous narrative is created from the constantly changing elements in the space – objects, various details, and the audience. It is not only a story about movement – it is an opportunity to feel the interaction with the world and yourself.
